Department of Health completes processing of death certificate backlog
Additional COVID-19 related deaths to be added to online dashboard Monday
SANTA FE - The New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) announces it will add approximately 100 additional deaths to its baseline of COVID-19 related deaths on Monday, May 24th, after completing an audit of public health records.
With the audit complete, the number of deaths reported for some New Mexico counties will rise or fall when the state dashboard is updated on Monday. The changes come after receiving and reconciling public health information delayed over the course of months.
The delays in processing the death records were due to a variety of reasons during the COVID-19 pandemic to include the processing of deaths of New Mexico residents occurring out-of-state as well as incomplete or inaccurate information at the time of death.
In addition to Monday’s anticipated dashboard updates, more details on these additional deaths will be reported next week in the Department of Health’s New Mexico COVID-19 Mortality Report published online every Tuesday at https://cv.nmhealth.org/epidemiology-reports/.
