The Problem

Drug overdose is currently the leading cause of injury death in the United States with the majority being caused by prescription opioids. For the last 20 years, New Mexico has had one of the highest overdose death rates in the country. While our state has made progress on this front, deaths due to prescription drugs have remained above the national rate, leading public health officials to declare this problem an epidemic. The more you know the more you can help prevent these tragic deaths from occurring.
