Las Cruces says, “Boo to the flu!” with no cost flu vaccinations offered at two local hospitals

SANTA FE – Las Cruces’ Memorial Medical Center and MountainView Regional Medical Center in partnership with the New Mexico Department of Health (DOH) will simultaneously host Boo to the Flu, the annual flu vaccination event in Las Cruces, at each hospital Saturday, October 29th. Flu shots for children and adults will be available from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at both locations or while supplies last.

There is no charge for the vaccinations, but anyone with insurance should bring their insurance card, including Medicaid or Medicare, with them.  

At Memorial Medical Center: 

  • Enter the north side of Memorial Medical Center’s parking lot from Terrace Drive between Telshor Blvd. and Don Roser Dr. Follow the signs and Memorial Medical Center  personnel for instructions. Drive through vaccinations will be provided for adults 18 and over. Families with children under 18 –years -old will be required to park and enter the Memorial Medical Center West Annex Building. 

At MountainView Regional Medical Center:  

  • Adults 18 and over can receive drive through vaccinations at the hospital’s main campus at 4311 E. Lohman Ave. Follow the signs and MountainView personnel for instructions.  
  • Families with children under 18 –years old will be required to park and enter the MountainView Senior Amigos walk-up clinic located at 3948 E. Lohman Ave. (Enter near Dion’s and exit at the signal next to Walgreens). Adults 18 older who prefer an indoor setting may access their vaccines through the walk-up clinic as well. 

Vaccination consent forms for adults and children are available in both English and Spanish online by both hospitals. Filling them out in advance and bringing them with you the day of the event will help keep lines moving efficiently.

The consent forms are identical no matter which hospital website you choose: MountainView Regional Medical Center has consent forms at https://www.mountainviewregional.com/classes-events-programs or on their Eventbrite page: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/boo-to-the-flu-tickets-431060332057. Consent forms can also be found on the Memorial Medical Center Events page at https://www.mmclc.org/. Hard copies can also be picked up in advance at the front desks of both facilities.

The New Mexico DOH recommends everyone six months of age and older get a flu vaccine each flu season, especially people in the following groups who are at high risk or live with and care for people at high risk for developing serious flu‐related complications, such as hospitalization and death: 

  • Children younger than five years old, but especially children younger than two years old 
  • Pregnant women (any trimester, and up to two weeks post-partum) 
  • People aged 50 and older  
  • People of any age with certain chronic medical conditions like asthma, diabetes, lung or heart disease, and those who are immunocompromised  
  • People who live in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities  
  • People who live with or care for those at high risk for complications from flu, including healthcare personnel and caregivers of babies younger than six months 
  • American Indians and Alaskan Natives  
  • People who are morbidly obese  

Boo to the Flu is created in partnership with the New Mexico DOH, Memorial Medical Center, MountainView Regional Medical Center, the United Way of Southwest New Mexico, Doña Ana County Government, Las Cruces Public Schools, the Las Cruces Fire Department, the Doña Ana County/City of Las Cruces Office of Emergency Management, New Mexico State University, Doña Ana Community College and American Medical Response Ambulance Service.
