New Mexico Youth the Focus of Annual Conference
The New Mexico Department of Health is proud to announce the 20th annual Head-to-Toe Conference kick off at the Albuquerque Convention Center this week (April 21st – 22nd) from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The conference is the state’s premiere event for school health professionals, and welcomes everyone from school nurses to guidance counselors – all working to improve student health and academic success.
Three keynote presenters focus on the role school health professionals play in reducing absenteeism and truancy, involving New Mexico youth in their own health education, providing tips for reducing stress and celebrating contributions school health workers make to the health and academic success of their students.
“The Head-to-Toe Conference provides an important opportunity for school health professionals to learn the latest school health policy and practice,” said Deputy Cabinet Secretary Lynn Gallagher. “Working in our schools, they’re often the first ones to identify any health-related situation that can put a student or the school community at-risk.”
The New Mexico Department of Health provides oversight of the state school nurses through the Office of School and Adolescent Health. The number of nurses and mental health counselors in our schools makes Head-to-Toe one of the largest conferences hosted by the Department of Health every year.
The Department of Health sponsors the Head-to-Toe Conference annually in partnership with several agencies, organizations and with the conference producer, Kesselman-Jones, Inc.
