Department of Health conducting survey to improve disaster preparedness, response and recovery
SANTA FE — The New Mexico Department of Health (NMHealth) announced that it will be conducting a survey of New Mexicans to improve disaster preparedness, response and recovery following the damaging wildfires and floods experienced in Lincoln County.
“We hope everyone completes the survey. The more diverse and comprehensive the survey the better we understand the community’s needs,” said Jimmy Masters NMHealth’s Southwest Region Public Health Director.
NMHealth is asking local households to complete a survey to inform recovery efforts and planning for future emergencies. Results from the survey will be used to learn more about providing emergency services to the community.
The survey is voluntary and confidential. There will be no record of which households participated. Teams will collect information from Ruidoso and surrounding area households starting August 13th. The survey will also be available at the back-to-school “Got Shots?” clinic will take place at the Ruidoso Public Health Office on August 13 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and from 1-4:00 p.m. This assessment aims to determine critical health needs, assess the impact of the disasters on the community, produce household-based information for decision-makers and evaluate the effectiveness of relief efforts.
Door-to-door surveyors will be visiting some households in Hoopa Valley to learn more about what the community experienced during and following the 2023 winter storms. Surveyors will be able to answer questions about how the survey information will be used to help the community prepare for future disasters.
