Pursuant to the House Bill 18 - Health Information Systems Act, the New Mexico Department of Health has the responsibility to collect, disseminate and use health data for public health data. The HIDD is regulated under this act. The HIDD contains record level information about every patient that has stayed a minimum of 24 hours in a non-federal hospital in New Mexico. The NMAC 7.1.27 specifies what has to be reported by hospitals on a quarterly basis.

Where can I find more information about the HIDD dataset?

Data reports for the HIDD are produced annually and are publically available on this page. The HIDD data can also be queried on the New Mexico New Mexico Indicator-Based Information System (NM-IBIS) (IBIS) website.

Can I request HIDD data?

Yes. The HSEP partners with the Health Care Utilization Project (HCUP) to provide de-identified record level HIDD to data requestors. Aggregate data can be requested through the HSEP.

I work at a Hospital. How do I submit data to the NMDOH?

Please register and upload a text file to the New Mexico Health Information Technology (NMHIT) website. Refer to the site for more information.


Health Information System Act Advisory Committee

The Health Information Systems Act Advisory Committee advises the Department of Health on carrying out the provisions of the House Bill 18 - Health Information Systems Act.

During the 2015 Legislative Session, legislation (SB 323) was passed that created an advisory committee under the Health Information Systems Act. Rules governing the advisory committee were published in the New Mexico Register on February 12, 2016. Please see NMAC 7.1.28 for more information.

Then in June of 2016, committee members were appointed by the Secretary of Health. The committee consists of members from the healthcare community including health consumers, health insurance providers, health care providers, hospital representatives, health consumer groups, health data experts, and representatives from the Human Services Department and Department of Health.

The meeting will be held in Hearing Room 1. The advisory committee will review and make recommendations for reports that will address public concerns regarding health information and access to health care, recommendations on how to present health information to a general audience, the best methods for effective dissemination of health information reports, and advise the Department of Health in carrying out the provisions of the HIS act.
