Grant County public health office offers free flu clinic

October 1, 2024 - Immunization - Vaccination

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Department of Health’s (NMHealth) Grant County public health office at 2610 N. Silver St. in Silver City, NM will host a flu vaccine clinic from 8 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct 7.

There is no charge for the vaccinations, and no insurance is required. Anyone with healthcare coverage is asked to bring their insurance card, including Medicaid or Medicare, with them.

“Flu vaccines are updated every year to offer us the best protection against the virus,” said Dr. Miranda Durham, Chief Medical Officer of NMHealth. “Getting you and your family vaccinated every year helps reduce the chances of getting sick, missing work or school, or developing serious illness.”

NMHealth recommends yearly flu vaccinations for everyone six months of age and older each flu season - running from October to May - especially for people in the following high-risk groups:

  • Children younger than five years old, but especially children younger than two years old.
  • Pregnant individuals up to two weeks postpartum.
  • People aged 50 and older.
  • People of any age with chronic medical conditions like asthma, diabetes, lung or heart disease.
  • People who are immunocompromised.
  • People who live in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities.
  • People who live with or care for anyone at high risk for complications from flu, including healthcare personnel and caregivers of babies younger than six months.

For more information, please call the Grant County public health office at (575) 538-5318 and select option 4 or visit the clinic's Facebook event page.
