New Mexicans should verify their vaccination status before getting COVID-19 boosters at weekend vaccination events
SANTA FE – This Saturday the state of New Mexico is hosting vaccination events in Albuquerque, Las Cruces and Santa Fe. If not fully vaccinated, New Mexicans are encouraged to schedule appointments to get their boosters this weekend.
As of right now, the CDC has only approved one Omicron booster for Americans 5 years old and up. A text message sent out from the New Mexico Department of Health (DOH) has led some people to register for these events who are not actually eligible. Individuals whose profiles were not up to date due to receiving vaccines at non-DOH providers may have been able to self-schedule for an additional, unauthorized booster.
Any adult who has received an Omicron COVID-19 vaccination after August 31, 2022, is considered fully vaccinated by the CDC and not eligible for additional vaccinations at this time.
New Mexicans unsure about their vaccination status can call the NMDOH hotline at 855-600-3453 and select menu option 3, option 9 for Spanish, to confirm their vaccination status, cancel an appointment if they are not eligible, or schedule an appointment for one of the vaccination events.
