Departments of Health and Public Education host upcoming student health conference
ALBUQUERQUE – New Mexico’s Department of Health and Public Education Department are hosting their annual Head to Toe Conference, Nov. 14-16 at the Albuquerque Convention Center located at 401 Second St. NW, Albuquerque, N.M. 87102. The highly anticipated conference features resources, support and expertise for state health educators and school health staff.
Preconference sessions on Nov. 14, will feature presentations for School Based Health Centers, Nursing, as well Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) suicide prevention training that is successfully being used nationwide to train educators and health providers to be able to recognize the warning signs of suicide and provide the tools to assure people at risk for suicide get they help they need.
The regular two-day conference on Nov. 15 and Nov. 16 offers a maximum of 10 hours of continuing education and contact hours for attendees. The broad spectrum of topics to help New Mexico youth include the impacts everything from good nutrition to technology have on students’ daily lives as well as increasing vaccination coverage rates, how to talk to young people about birth control choices, best practices for working with LGBTQ+ youth and understanding transgender cultural fluency.
The Head to Toe Conference is also produced in support from the generous contributions of Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico. Presbyterian Centennial Care and Western Sky Community Care.
