Deming WIC Program Celebrates World Breastfeeding Week
The New Mexico Department of Health’s Deming Women, Infants, Children program (WIC) and the New Mexico Breastfeeding Task Force will host its annual World Breastfeeding Week Celebration Event August 11, 2017 at 215 S. Silver at 1:00 pm.
The “Wild About Breastfeeding” World Breastfeeding Week Celebration aims to strengthen local support for breastfeeding and to improve the health of children and women in the community. It is one of many similar events that take place annually during World Breastfeeding Week (August 1st – 7th).
“Breastfeeding is the best food you can give your baby,” said Department of Health Secretary Lynn Gallagher. “Our Breastfeeding Week events educate New Mexico families of all the ways breastfeeding is the ideal food for infant growth and development.”
WIC services approximately 1385 families in Luna County per month.
WIC is the Special Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC). It is a federal program administered by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food and Nutrition Service, and the New Mexico Department of Health, Public Health Division.
