Hobbs WIC Program Celebrates National Breastfeeding Month
The New Mexico Department of Health’s Lea County Women, Infants, Children program (WIC) in partnership with Natural Nesters and the Legacy Pregnancy Resource Center, will host its annual National Breastfeeding Month Event at the Lea County Mom and Baby Fair on Saturday, August 27th at Del Norte Park in Hobbs from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. This year's World Breastfeeding Week theme is: Breastfeeding: A Key to Sustainable Development.
The Lea County National Breastfeeding Month event aims to strengthen local support for breastfeeding and to improve the health of children and women in the community. It is one of many similar events that take place annually during August’s National Breastfeeding Month,
“This and similar events statewide raise awareness of breastfeeding, encourages the formation of support networks between breastfeeding women, and aims to normalize breastfeeding as a part of daily life,” said Department of Health Secretary Designate Lynn Gallagher. “Our New Mexico WIC program is helping make those goals a reality on daily basis in our state.”
WIC services approximately 3000 families in Lea County per month.
WIC is the Special Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC). It is a federal program administered by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food and Nutrition Service, and the New Mexico Department of Health, Public Health Division.
