DOH: plans forthcoming for third COVID-19 shots among immunocompromised populations

August 13, 2021 - 2019 Novel Coronavirus - Awareness

State guidance will likely be shared early next week, following federal review process

SANTA FE - The New Mexico Department of Health (DOH) on Friday acknowledged the ongoing federal FDA and CDC review process surrounding potential third COVID-19 doses for some immunocompromised populations. On Thursday, the FDA voted to approve third shots for some immunocompromised populations, and today, the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices is also meeting to review the issues.

“DOH is looking ahead to the likely possibility that the federal government will approve third shots for some groups of immunocompromised people. In the meantime, DOH is continuing to develop plans and operational protocols to ensure that vaccines can be made available as quickly and efficiently as possible,” said DOH Deputy Secretary Dr. Laura Parajon.

DOH will share additional information early next week.
