Web page about the multistate outbreak of Listeriosis linked to Blue Bell Creameries products.Blue Bell is voluntarily recalling all of its products because they have the potential to be contaminated with listeria. This recall includes ice cream, frozen yogurt, sherbet and frozen snacks made at all Blue Bell facilities and sold in New Mexico. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the US Food and Drug Administration are investigating an outbreak of listeria infections linked to Blue Bell Ice Cream. As of April 21st, a total of ten people with listeriosis related to this outbreak have been confirmed from 4 states: Arizona (1), Kansas (5), Oklahoma (1), and Texas (3). Three deaths were reported from Kansas.

There are no cases of listeria linked to the outbreak reported in New Mexico.

Listeriosis is a life-threatening infection caused by eating food contaminated with the bacterium (germ) Listeria monocytogenes. People at high risk for listeriosis include pregnant women, adults 65 and older, and people with weakened immune systems.

The New Mexico Environment Department is working with the FDA to coordinate on notifications concerning the voluntary recall of Blue Bell Ice Cream. The Environment Department contacts the relevant area agencies and entities to ensure their awareness of the recall, so that they can verify that the product has been removed.
