Welcome to New Mexico Department of Health Family Planning Program
The New Mexico Department of Health Family Planning Program promotes and provides comprehensive family planning services, including clinic-based services and community education and outreach, to promote health and reproductive responsibility.

Services Offered
Clinical services include providing a contraceptive method and/or a clinical exam visit.
The clinical exam visit includes:
- a medical history/physical
- family planning counseling
- a supply of a contraceptive method of choice
- pregnancy testing (if needed)
- laboratory tests (as needed)
- testing and counseling for sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
A comprehensive health screening with mental health and drug abuse risk assessment may be provided.
The services are provided statewide in Public Health Offices, Primary Care Clinics & School-Based Health Centers.
Educational services
NM DOH FPP provides community education & outreach and evidence-based teen pregnancy prevention programs including:
- Service learning programs
- Adult-teen communication programs
- Comprehensive sex education
- Male involvement

Our Mission
The New Mexico Department of Health Family Planning Program promotes and provides comprehensive family planning services, including clinic-based services and community education and outreach, to promote health and reproductive responsibility.
These family planning services aid individuals and families in making choices regarding the spacing and number of their children. Family planning is an integral component of the Department of Health's efforts to reduce teen pregnancy, prevent unintended pregnancies and STDs, reduce infant mortality and morbidity, and improve the health of women and men of all ages.
