Vaccinations Available for Adults, Expectant Mothers

The New Mexico Department of Health announces its Las Cruces Public Health Office, 1170 N. Solano Drive is accepting appointments for adult immunizations starting August 4th at the Southwest Preventive Medicine Clinic.

Immunizations include the Tdap vaccine, recommended for all pregnant women at each pregnancy. Tdap vaccine protects against tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (whooping cough).

Anyone who is going to be around an infant should also make sure they have been vaccinated with Tdap before coming in contact with an infant. This strategy, known as "cocooning," was first recommended by CDC in 2006. The principle behind this strategy is that by assuring that everyone around an infant has been vaccinated, the risk of transmission of whooping cough to the vulnerable infant can be reduced.

Other Adult Immunizations available include vaccines for hepatitis A/B for at risk persons. There is also a pneumonia vaccination available for residents ages 65 and over or any adult 19 years and older that is a cigarette smoker or has pre-existing respiratory issues such as asthma, lung disease or COPD.

The immunization services within the Preventive Medicine Clinic are available to the public Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm (Closed from 12:00pm-1:00pm). Please bring insurance, Medicaid, and/or Medicare cards.

For price information and to make an appointment call the Las Cruces Public Health Office’s Southwest Preventive Medicine Clinic at 575-528-5006.
