DTPA Forward Placement Project in New Mexico

To better prepare our communities to quickly respond to a radiological terrorist attack New Mexico Department of Health Bureau of Health Emergency Management and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have forward placed advance supplies of Diethylenetriamine Pentaacetic Acid (DTPA) in New  Mexico.  DTPA is most effective as a medical countermeasure if it can be administered to individuals with known or suspected internal contamination within the first 8-12 hours after radiological exposure.  By having forward placed supplies of DTPA we ensure quick access of the countermeasure to hospitals treating victims of radiological exposure..
